At BGR we believe children and teachers should be working in bright, comfortable, inspiring spaces where they are free to focus on their studies and enjoy their environment. Our state of the art sustainable outdoor classrooms are temperature controlled with mechanised ventilation which removes stale air and ensures fresh air circulates the room at all times. This helps aid concentration which leads to more productive teaching and learning. The classrooms are also well-lit and boast optimum acoustics.
A BGR classroom can be crafted on-site in 12- 14 weeks and we can make adjustments as we go to ensure the room or rooms meet your requirements. We combine the latest technology with the best materials, so the end result is sustainable, smart and stylish looking classrooms which are also practical and functional.
Our outdoor classrooms are built on site and designed to your specifications, so whatever you need your outdoor classroom to adapt to, we’ve got you covered.
Your spaces are completely customisable, so if you don’t need another classroom but you do need a new staffroom or offices for your team, one of our timber framed structures could be the solution. These structures can also be used as SEND rooms and security booths, dedicated art blocks or forest school units. The list is endless! Our sustainable timber framed buildings can be tailored to suit your needs.

Air Source Heat Pumps
Environmentally friendly technology, taking air from the outside to keep the classroom cool in the summer months and warm in the winter.
Energy Efficient
A++ rated heating systems, ensuring precise temperature control. Providing a comfortable atmosphere as well as promoting energy efficiency, aligning with our sustainability goals.
Fresh Air
Mechanised ventilation systems which ensure there is fresh air flowing through the space and stale air is filtered out. These high levels of fresh air really aid children in their concentration.
High Quality Insulation
We use Actis Hybris insulation which is a unique honeycomb reflective insulation product designed with a network of closed cells that trap heat and provide excellent thermal performance. This means that not only does the space remain warm and cosy in the winter months but it also means the building will be cool in the summer months. The material doesn’t compact over time either so it is hard wearing.
Accessibility Features
We realise the importance of accessibility and want to ensure that every student can access educational resources and facilities comfortably. Our classrooms can be made fully accessible so parents of pupils with disabilities or special needs can feel reassured knowing that the spaces are equipped with all the appropriate accessibility features, allowing their children to learn and thrive.
Integrated Security
Understandably parents entrust schools with the safety and well-being of their children. Security access systems offer reassurance to parents that their children are attending lessons in a secure environment and provide an added layer of protection for pupils, ensuring that only authorised individuals can enter the classrooms. BGR classrooms can integrate with any security and access systems that a school has in place.
Optimum Sound and Lighting
We liaise with experts to achieve acoustically ideal spaces and work with the global leader Sylvania Lighting to ensure our classrooms are lit to the optimum level
Health and Safety
For health and safety purposes, window openers are positioned at the tops of windows and doors and are all fitted with finger guards.
Sustainable outdoor classrooms designed for a brighter future
The existing terrapin outdoor classrooms are outdated and expensive to maintain and upkeep.
We believe our classrooms go a long way to assisting schools in their net zero journey. We are committed to sustainability and innovation in all aspects of our work. We partner with leading industry experts to develop low-carbon and carbon-neutral solutions for our customers.
Our sustainable outdoor classrooms are made from FSC timber so for every tree that is cut down, five new ones are planted. The trees we use also contain a high level of embodied carbon as they are only cut down at the end of their carbon optimum life.
All our buildings are EPC rated so they are very energy efficient. We also follow IEQ - Indoor Environmental Quality guidance. This guidance was produced by The British Standard and the focus is on improving health and well-being standards within buildings.
This pioneering standard offers guidance for measuring, monitoring, and reporting on IEQ in commercial buildings. It includes assessments and rating systems for aspects such as air quality, lighting, thermal comfort, and acoustics.
Our classrooms are well regulated with cutting edge air source heating rated at A++. Our air source heat pumps are supplied by Mitsubishi Electric and are backed up by a 7 year national guarantee. Mitsubishi provide the most cost-effective, low-carbon heat pump solutions.
We work in Partnership with you to deliver a better learning experience for your students
We build our classrooms on-site which means we can fit them into more challenging sites and tighter spaces. We follow Department for Education guidelines so that our classrooms meet the recommended size specifications. However, at BGR bespoke is standard so our craftsmen listen to your needs and involve you in the build process, making changes and adjustments according to your wishes as we go.
One size fits all - our classrooms are suitable for use as standard classrooms but also as science labs. We can build more than one classroom at a time so if the space allows we can build a double or triple space. Our builds take 4 - 5 weeks to complete with a lead time of around 4 weeks.
All our staff are DBS checked and we are proud to be accredited by Constructionline. They assess a variety of factors within a business including financial, health and safety as well as quality and environmental management of the business.

Our partnership continues long after your outdoor classroom is built
At BGR, we don’t just want to craft and supply state of the art classrooms sustainably. We also want the pupils to understand and appreciate how remarkable and important the space is.
Classrooms can be more than just places to learn. They can be living examples of sustainability, showing our young learners that harmony with the environment is not just a dream but a reality we can build. We want to show the children how the sustainable materials their classroom is made from and the equipment within it are all helping their school reach their carbon neutral targets.
To achieve this goal, we run interactive assemblies, teaching the children about the different facilities and building materials that are used. We do this in line with the Key Stage curriculum syllabus.
In addition BGR also offers work experience for three students each year. We give three young people the opportunity to work with us in all the different areas of our business. We hope that this equips them with some valuable transferable skills and experiences.
